Depending on the conditions and pace of the group, our walk may include:
The State Buildings & Treasury – beautiful heritage architecture, details, symmetry and framing
Council House – modern architecture, patterns, lines and reflections
London Court – one of Perth's most distinctive laneways, perfect for architecture, details and perspective
Grand Lane – colourful urban artwork and street photography opportunities
Wolf Lane – murals, textures, hidden details and creative compositions
Elizabeth Quay – city views, reflections, architecture, movement and the Swan River
Rather than simply photographing each location, we'll look at how to find the photograph – exploring different angles, perspectives, light and compositions to create something more interesting than the obvious snapshot
Throughout the walk we'll work on:
- Composition and framing
- Finding and using natural light
- Leading lines, symmetry and reflections
- Creating depth in your photographs
- Choosing stronger viewpoints and perspectives
- Photographing architecture and city details
- Capturing movement and everyday moments
- Looking for colour, texture and patterns
- Making the most of the camera or smartphone you already own
Visiting Perth?
If you're visiting Western Australia, this is a relaxed and creative way to explore part of Perth while improving your photography at the same time.
You don't need to carry a professional camera. Smartphone photographers are absolutely welcome.
Whether you're travelling solo, with a partner or simply looking for something different to do while you're in Perth, you'll have the opportunity to discover some well-known landmarks alongside smaller laneways and details you might otherwise walk straight past.
What You'll Get
This isn't just a guided walk around Perth. It's a practical photography experience where you'll have the opportunity to learn, experiment and ask questions as we go.
You'll receive:
- Hands-on photography guidance throughout the walk
- Help with composition, light and creative camera techniques
- Guidance with your camera or smartphone
- Individual help and feedback while you're shooting
- Creative challenges to encourage you to see locations differently
- Tips you can continue using long after the walk has finished
- The opportunity to create your own collection of photographs from some of Perth's most interesting locations
And, most importantly, you'll leave with a better understanding of how to see a photograph rather than simply take one.
