Depending on the conditions and pace of the group, our walk may include:
The Round House & West End – historic architecture, limestone buildings, textures, symmetry and beautiful streetscapes
High Street – colourful heritage buildings, street photography, architectural details and strong leading lines
Fremantle Markets & surrounding streets – colour, character, people, details and everyday moments
Walyalup Koort – a mix of modern and heritage architecture with interesting shapes, lines and perspectives
Fishing Boat Harbour – boats, reflections, movement, colour and Fremantle's maritime character
Esplanade & waterfront areas – open spaces, coastal details, changing light and opportunities to experiment with composition
Rather than simply photographing each location, we'll look at how to find the photograph – exploring different angles, perspectives, light and compositions to create something more interesting than the obvious snapshot.
Throughout the walk we'll work on:
- Composition and framing
- Finding and using natural light
- Leading lines, symmetry and reflections
- Creating depth in your photographs
- Choosing stronger viewpoints and perspectives
- Photographing architecture and heritage details
- Street photography and capturing everyday moments
- Looking for colour, texture and patterns
- Making the most of the camera or smartphone you already own
Visiting Fremantle?
If you're visiting Western Australia, this is a relaxed and creative way to explore one of WA's most distinctive historic port cities while improving your photography at the same time.
You don't need to carry a professional camera. Smartphone photographers are absolutely welcome.
Whether you're travelling solo, with a partner or simply looking for something different to do while you're in Fremantle, you'll have the opportunity to photograph some of its well-known landmarks while also discovering smaller streets, details and compositions you might otherwise walk straight past.
What You'll Get
This isn't just a guided walk around Fremantle. It's a practical photography experience where you'll have the opportunity to learn, experiment and ask questions as we go.
You'll receive:
- Hands-on photography guidance throughout the walk
- Help with composition, light and creative camera techniques
- Guidance with your camera or smartphone
- Individual help and feedback while you're shooting
- Creative challenges to encourage you to see locations differently
- Tips you can continue using long after the walk has finished
- The opportunity to create your own collection of photographs from some of Fremantle's most interesting locations
And, most importantly, you'll leave with a better understanding of how to see a photograph rather than simply take one.
Who Is This Walk For?
Everyone.
Whether you're completely new to photography, already comfortable with your camera, travelling with just your smartphone or simply want to become more creative with the way you take photographs, you're welcome.
The walk is designed to work with your level, your equipment and the way you like to photograph.
